Tips for Farriers: Some Informative Shorts for Summer
One of Noble Farriery’s primary goals is to educate clients and other horse care professionals based on decades in the equine care industry. Some of our latest shorts on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube provide insights into farrier health, pad preparation and forging demonstrations.
Farrier Longevity: Nutrition and Health
Farriery is HARD on the body. In addition to the dangers of working with powerful and sometimes unpredictable animals in barns that have their own environmental hazards, farriers have to hold unnatural positions for a long time while putting lots of torque on their joints and muscles. In a recent short, Principal Farrier Seth Noble emphasizes an often overlooked aspect of health: nutrition.
Truthfully, people in all lines of work fall prey to this: We rely too much on heavily processed foods as a matter of convenience on the go. But these kinds of foods can be highly inflammatory, and for people doing a demanding job like farriery, that catches up with you fast. Seth gives his recommendations for the kinds of food that keep him running on long days (which is pretty much every day).
Prepping Pads for a Shoe Reset
The farrier team at Noble Farriery are huge advocates for the use of pads to improve comfort and absorb concussion on shod horses. Sometimes after a trim, the shoe can be reset, but a fresh pad is best. In this video on TikTok, Seth Noble demonstrates the pad trimming and prep process for a reset.
A Quick New Shoe Forging Demo on YouTube
Last but not least, everyone loves seeing a skilled blacksmith at work, and in this short on YouTube, Seth Noble starts a custom shoe from steel bar stock. For longer form videos that show a more complete transformation, check out the Nobel Farriery YouTube channel.
